FALL TERM REFLECTION. Due by Friday, February 9th.

From the fall semester, write about your:
  • successes with each song we played in the winter concert, and your
  • struggles with each song we played in the winter concert.
Some suggestions to consider including in your answer:
  • Successes (i.e., things that went well) might be: the notes, the rhythms, the form of the song (for example: repeats, endings, etc.), the articulations, the dynamics. You can include any details that seem relevant to the music. A success also might be something that you were initially challenged by but then improved over time with your own practice, or something we did in class, or even something you worked on with me (or your own private teacher).
  • Struggles (i.e., things that did not go as planned) might be: any notes or rhythms that you never mastered, any song forms (i.e., repeats, endings, etc.) that you had trouble with, any instrument issues that get in the way of making music, any issues with reading standard notation or rhythms.
Important note: I do not want a list of your successes and struggles. I want a thoughtful and deliberate explanation of your experience with the music. Write about why and how you think you succeeded and struggled with each song we played. Be specific; reference the music by measure number where appropriate. And, use music vocabulary wherever you can.

At a minimum, include at least one success and one struggle for each song. A thoughtful, well answered reflection will be approximately one to two typed pages. Handwritten responses will not be accepted. See me with any questions as soon as possible.
